Here is a guide of how to use our candle moulds. All of our moulds are made onsite here in Kent and are user friendly.

When making candles you will need to make sure you have the following: a bain marie or similar container for melting your wax, a pouring pot with spout and handle, a wire rack, a thermometer, a lolly stick or similar to hold the wick in place, wick, baking paper, a spoon/ladle/paring knife,a wicking needle and some mould release spray (optional).

When using Single Sided Moulds (such as tree decorations) you must make sure that your ornament hangers, ribbons, cords or wires are pre-cut and ready to use before you pour as the wax will harden quickly.

For Figure Moulds you need to use a large wicking needle to wick the mould before pouring. Pull the qick through the mould and make sure you leave yourself around six extra inches at the top, this can be cut once the candle is finished. You should also leave a substantial length or wick out of the bottom of the mould. This helps when you remove your cooled candle out od the moulds, as the mould will automatically be re-wicked for your next pour. Most of our moulds are pre-cut where needed which makes it easier for you to remove your candle. If your mold has been cut, we provide heavy duty elastic bands to be used with the mould. Simply place the band around your mould and carefully allign the cut sides. Making sure the cut is lined up is very important to ensure there is not a seam on your candle. Wrap your wick around a lollipop stick and move it down to the opening of the mould. Make sure that your wick is centered in the middle of the candle and don't pull it too tight as this can cause problems when burning your candle. Now is the time to give your mould a light spray of mould release if required.

With Tapered Tube Moulds, as wicking needles may not be long enough to wick a taper mould, you can buy a wicking tool. Place the wicking through the eye, insert the end of the wicking tool in the hole and push up through the mould. Be sure you leave an ample supply of wick on the bottom of the mould so it will automatically re-wick when you remove the candle. Leave at least six inches of wick on the top of the mould; this will help you remove the candle from the mould. Use the bobby pin to hold the wick in place. Brace the taper mould securely so that it won’t fall over.

Because wax is highly flammable, make sure you read instructions and have your moulds ready before starting the melting process. Cover your work area with baking paper (wax side up) and yourself with an apron to protect from accidental spills. For safety, separate your pouring area from your wax melting area. Place your wax in the top of the bain marie or place melting container on a trivet or wire rack in a larger, heavy bottom pan containing water. Turn the heat on low.

The wax will take some time to melt so don’t let your larger pan with the water go dry. Use the thermometer to check for the correct temperature (beeswax 150°- 160°F or 66°-71°C/soft paraffin wax 170°- 180°F or 77°-82°C) before pouring the wax. When the proper temperature is reached, add your choice of scent or colouring if desired. Turn off the heat and carefully transfer wax to your pouring pot. If a Wax Melting Pot is used, you can pour directly from the jug into the mould.

Pour the wax slowly to prevent air bubbles. Allow the wax to cool and harden. Time will vary depending on the size of the mould. When the candle is completely cooled, remove the bobby pin and rubber bands. Gently separate the mould at the seam then pull slowly but firmly on the extra length of wick. Pull the candle out and clip the wick; your mould is then wicked for the next pouring. If needed, trim the base and/or seams with a paring knife or a hot plate to level off the bottom. Trim the wick at the top of the candle to about 1/2” (1.27cm).
