Why Treating with Formic Pro Matters for Your Hive Health
Varroa mites are like ticks for bees — small parasites that weaken colonies by sucking blood from bees and spreading disease. If left unchecked, they can cause serious damage, even colony collapse.
Formic Pro is a proven solution for significantly reducing mite levels, including those hidden under the brood caps, which a lot of treatments can't reach.By targeting both phoretic mites (those living on adult bees) and mites in the capped brood, Formic Pro works where it's needed most.
In Tamsin's case, after a Formic Pro treatment in March, mite levels dropped dramatically in 11 days — with stronger brood in just 21 days. This shows how effective the treatment can be when used at the right time. She treated before her first honey flow - it is important to remember that Formic Pro cannot be used with supers on the hive. With the first honey flow now out of the way in many parts of the UK, and you are finding that your hive may be underperforming or unusually aggressive or struggling to build up well, Varroa can be the culprit. Don’t wait for “winter prep” in October — the time to act is now.
Formic Pro is a 11-day treatment with over 90% efficacy. On Day 1, bees may appear unhealthy or unproductive (see the first photo from Tamsin) but by Day 21, after treatment and recovery, you'll often see a thriving, stronger colony. Once you have treated your hive, you can add your supers back on after the 11 days to make sure they are going into the second flow as strong as possible.Treat the Varroa — not just the mites you see, but the ones you don't.
