Clay Housemartin Nesting Bowl

This House Martin nesting bowl is designed to provide a safe and natural nesting site for these declining migratory birds. Made from breathable, unglazed clay, it closely mimics the traditional mud nests built by house martins, helping to encourage successful nesting and breeding.

Mounted on a durable FSC®-certified timber backboard for secure fixing, the bowl is finished in a subtle putty grey to blend naturally with buildings. An effective conservation solution, this nesting bowl helps replace lost nesting sites and supports house martins in towns and villages across the UK.

Where to site:

• Fix the nesting bowl high on a building, ideally under the eaves, at least 5 metres above ground.

• Position on a north- or east-facing wall to avoid strong sun and overheating.

• Choose a quiet area, away from windows, doors, and frequent disturbance.

• Install in groups where possible, as house martins are colonial nesters and prefer to nest close together.

How to care for it:

• Install the nesting bowl before house martins return in spring (typically April).

• Do not disturb the nest during the breeding season.

• After the birds have left in autumn, check the bowl is secure and clear away any loose debris if necessary.

• The unglazed clay is weather-resistant and requires minimal maintenance; avoid chemicals or cleaning agents.
