The WoodStone 32mm Nest Box by National Trust

The WoodStone® Nest Box is part of the professional Vivara Pro range, expertly designed to provide long-lasting, safe nesting spaces for garden birds. Unlike traditional wooden nest boxes, WoodStone® will not rot, warp, or deteriorate over time, and each box is backed by a 10-year guarantee.

Manufactured from a robust blend of concrete and wood fibres, WoodStone® nest boxes offer exceptional durability and protection. The solid construction helps deter predators such as woodpeckers, cats, and squirrels, giving nesting birds greater security. In addition, the insulating properties of the material maintain a more stable internal temperature than conventional wooden boxes — a crucial advantage during the breeding season, helping to improve chick survival rates.

Due to the weight and strength of the nest box, aluminium nails are recommended when fixing it in position, ensuring secure installation while minimising damage to trees.

With a 32mm entrance hole, this nest box is suitable for a range of small garden birds, including Great Tits, Pied Flycatchers, Tree Sparrows, and House Sparrows.

Siting and Care for Longevity:

For best results, position the nest box at least 2–4 metres above ground, facing between north and east to avoid strong sunlight and driving rain. Choose a quiet location away from regular disturbance and ensure the box is securely fixed to prevent movement in strong winds.

WoodStone® nest boxes require minimal maintenance. After the breeding season, the box can be checked and gently cleaned to remove old nesting material, helping to maintain hygiene and extend its lifespan. Avoid the use of chemicals or preservatives, as these may harm birds.
