The WoodStone® Open Nest Box forms part of the professional Vivara Pro range, designed to provide long-lasting, secure nesting sites for a wide variety of garden birds. Unlike traditional wooden nest boxes, WoodStone® will not rot, warp, or deteriorate over time and is built to perform reliably for many years.

Constructed from a durable blend of concrete and wood fibres, WoodStone® nest boxes offer excellent protection against predators such as woodpeckers, cats, and squirrels. The insulating properties of the material help maintain a stable internal temperature, creating a safer nesting environment, particularly important during the breeding season, when consistent conditions can significantly improve chick survival rates.

Due to the weight of the nest box, aluminium nails are recommended for installation, providing secure fixing while minimising potential damage to trees.

This open-fronted nest box is suitable for species that prefer sheltered but accessible nesting sites, including Robins and Wrens (when well concealed in thickets or trees), Spotted Flycatchers, Pied and Grey Wagtails, Song Thrushes, and Blackbirds.

Siting and care for longevity and safety:

For best results, position the nest box in a quiet, sheltered location, ideally at least 1.5 -2 metres above ground. Open nest boxes should be well concealed by vegetation or placed against a wall, fence, or outbuilding to offer protection from predators and harsh weather. Avoid south-facing positions to prevent overheating and ensure the box is securely fixed to prevent movement in strong winds.

WoodStone® nest boxes require minimal maintenance. After the breeding season, check and gently clean the box to remove old nesting material, helping to maintain hygiene and extend its lifespan. Avoid using chemicals or preservatives, as these can be harmful to birds. Regular visual checks will help ensure the box remains safe and securely positioned year after year.
