Smith DN1 Brood Frames - Pack of 50 Frames

Smith DN1 Super Frames are designed for use in Smith hives and are fully compatible with British National hives. The key difference between Smith and National frames is the lug length: Smith frames feature traditional short 19mm (¾") lugs, while standard National frames have longer 38mm (1½") lugs. All other frame dimensions remain the same, allowing Smith frames to fit and function perfectly in a National hive.

The Smith DN1 frame consists of a 7/8" wide top bar measuring 15½" (395mm) in length, DN1 side bars, and a two-piece 14" bottom bar. Many beekeepers favour the Smith design as the shorter lugs can make frame handling easier and reduce the space between the frame ends and hive walls.

These frames are supplied flat packed for easy storage and transport and require assembly. Nails are not included. For correct spacing, we recommend using narrow plastic end spacers.

Important

Smith DN1 frames are not the same as standard National DN1 frames. While the frame body dimensions are identical, Smith frames use shorter 19mm (¾") lugs compared with the 38mm (1½") lugs found on National frames. This gives the overall top bar a length of 395mm rather than the 430mm found on standard National frames.
